HO / Funearl Train #2
November 03, 2010, 04:55:18 PM
WEll i'm finally underway on Purdy's funeral train. I finished the locomotive months ago and been working slowly on her train. Funds have allowed very slow progress and I hope to have the casket car done in a short while now that I have the interior work started.

Casket, preacher, and two mourners, i want to get seated people to put in there as well but funds ran out at the train show.(the new display cases i got for the two engines cost me $70 total)

The display I've put together so far.

HO / Looks like I might be leaving the hobby......
October 16, 2010, 03:46:28 PM
Anyone know the status of the roundhouse Pacific's?

Considering the end of my model railroad career is probably near due to high rising costs at an alarming rate (and lack of a local hobby shop that care about the walk in customers that i can get to) I'm gonna have to drop out of the hobby. But I was hoping to get my hands on those locomotives before I left the hobby in Decemeber. I figure I will go to the end of the year.

a few examples of why i'm leaving the hobby.....

the new Bachmann 4-4-0 Baldwin, No sound DCC Eqquipped retails for $300.00, I don't even make that much in a week. same goes for the 3 truck climax. Both Locomotives i would like to add to my collection but can not see how I can.

the Roundhouse Milk cars were when I first started getting some for a Milk Express were $12. Now in their last run they were selling for $18(thats no the MSRP which went from $16 or 17 to 22)

I guess this months GSMTS will be my last, as will the funeral train I am still trying to gather funds for to make for my fallen pup Purdy(I lost two dogs this year to death, one was medically induced and the 2nd, Purdy died of natural causes) will be my last custom project. I have Purdy's engine done and i have the casket car mostly done, and i still need to get 3 more coaches.

I'll probably keep my website up for people to see the custom work i've done, but before you ask I do not intend to sell any of my collection so if i ever can afford to get back into the hobby i wont have to start all over.

13 of 79 cars derailed just outside the Howard Street Tunnel on the Mt. Royal end of the tunnel. All cars stayed upright, 9 other trains are backed up right now. Some of the derailed cars went into tunnel.

This one isn't anything like the one that derailed and caught fire inside the tunnel about 10 years ago.

HO / Projects yard.
July 30, 2010, 09:21:41 AM
Here's whats currently in my projects yard awating repairs/etc

Track 3(fartherst away from camera)
C&O 2-8-2 Mikado(formally a C&O 4-6-2). Justs needs some final testings
Circus Coach - Just some minor detailing left. Its pretty much done
Southern Pacific Coach - Not sure what I'm gonna do with this yet, might turn it into a Ma & Pa Coach

Track 2(middle)
B&O Shay #6 - Oddly enough just needs an overcoat to seal the decals. I had stripped the tender and coal bunker because of so much paint was taking the rivit detail away(was never happy with the lettering). Did that work about 8 or 9 months ago.
50T Climax - Probably going to be spruced up for a display piece, missing too many parts to repair fully.
4-6-0 - Once I get a tender for it(i have one somewhere) going to become C&O #5 for Excursion service painted up in O.T. Lettering like the one in the B&O Museum.

Track 1(Closest)
B&O 4-4-0 #625 "Washington" - To have tender chain's repaired then painted as B&O # 12 "Purdy" for my 2nd fallen dogs Memorial Train. Purdy passed away back on July 10th from natural causes. Back in January i had to have her daughter put to sleep due to a brain tumor. Lost 2 of my 3 dogs in less then 6 months.

Coach - To become a casket car for Purdy's Memorial train. Her train will have same concept as SArah's only it will be painted pullman green with gold stripes and will be all enclosed. Will probably do lighting once i learn how to do it.

B&O 4-4-0 675 - I believe this loco derailed on me last time i ran it causing damage to the pilot and tender chains. This loco will be fully repaired and put back into service.

I have more but those are the main ones for now. Track 3 will probably be open for more projects once i finish up the Mike and Circus coach along with the Shay so i can move the SP coach to track 2.

What you guys got you're working on? and Comments on my projects greatly welcomed!

HO / No more tenders?
July 29, 2010, 05:47:13 PM
Now that I'm trying to repaint a 4-6-0 i was going to use a Medium Vanderbuilt but i starting look to realize they are no longer available. Is this just temporary or are they gone for good?

Trying to get one of 89901

General Discussion / Work train make-up
June 26, 2010, 07:24:15 PM
while I am looking for how a MOW Train is set up, i'm mostly looking to find out where specific cars were located on a train. I'm trying to find out where the heavy crane's were located on the train and derrick cars. I am in the process of doing a B&O and a C&O work train for each road, I've got cranes and derricks for both of em, C&O I only have 4 other cars for the train, a tanker, flat car with bulldozer, boom car, and a gondola,

B&O i have a tank car, gondola, RPO, Baggage, crane, derrick car.

What would be a prototypical train line up?

Thanks for any help

HO / Some Rare Items...
June 20, 2010, 05:03:41 PM
Here's some rare(i think) items in my collection. I say they are rare because i hardly if ever seen em before.

The two box cars after the engine and the two stock cars and caboose after the center B&O car. At first i thought the center B&O car was a rare item, but looking closer it appears to be a custom made car. The Locomotive is only on there to keep the cars from rolling off the track haha.

In this picture I've only seen the freight cars a handful of times. Some only once!

And of course, can't let the Lincoln Funeral coach go unshown.

What do you have?

HO / Funeral Train Complete
June 20, 2010, 12:05:11 PM
I completed my dogs funeral train on friday 6/18/2010

Sarah with her completed train

The Locomotive of her train proudly displaying her photo

Casket Car "Fetch" and Open Air Coach "Tug of War" her favorite games

Coach "Together Again" and Coach/Obs "Kiss Her For Me", songs that remind me of her

The names on the Locomotive and cars were painstakingly applied letter by letter and in some cases the numbers were placed number by number. Only "BALTIMORE AND OHIO" was placed as a whole decal.

Sorry no picture as I was on my way to work, but i was on teh Baltimore Light Rail near the wye track by the stadiums(the light rail bridges the wye in which the CSX Freights go into the Howard Street Tunnel, and MARC goes into Camden Station(EX B&O Camden Station) Anyway I happen to look over and saw what appeard to be a GP series locomotive( I'm a steam person So I'm not sure) and right behind it a Yard switcher(Like an SW-1 looking engine) as a helper. Not sure if it was deadheaded or not, but I kinda doubt it as the train was a bit long.

Is that normal to see a yard switcher as a helper on a mainline?

HO / C&O K3
June 17, 2010, 05:29:43 PM
Here's a C&O K3 i did out of a F-19 Pacific by Rivarossi. I still have some tweaks to do but its all in all almost ready for operation.

My intent was to take a second F-19 and put it on an IHC chassis and then use the IHC shell for a new pacific, the Mikado shell on the IHC didn't fit on the Rivarossi pacific chassis for the F-19

Heres the K3

(i know the road number is wrong)
I bought a second F-19 and turned it into a K3

Here's a shot of the F-19 that i still have. I got the one above off ebay and noticed after i took it all apart and started the modifcations that someone somewhere swapped the tenders from a vanderbuilt. I may or may not eventually give the K3 a Vanderbuilt Tender.

General Discussion / Looking for Information
June 13, 2010, 09:56:48 AM
I am currently seeking information on the Phildelphia Wilmington and Baltimore Coach used as the Officers car on the Lincoln Funeral Train. While i have a book on the train, I have not found any clear cut pictures of the car, I'm more looking for the PWB paint and lettering scheme so I may complete this car to go along with my Lincoln Funeral coach.

With the winding down of my dog's funeral train, applying the last few decals now, i want to venture onto the two main cars of the Lincoln funeral train.

Thanks for any diagrams or details you can provide!

HO / I think i fried my shark!
May 30, 2010, 06:10:50 PM
While test runing my shark (RF16) i accidently backed over a electro frog switch which was sent in the oppisite direction. It died instantly and then i started smelling something burning. Engine wouldn't run after that.

anyone else do that?

HO / Funeral Train Project Progress
May 09, 2010, 11:46:22 AM
WEll i'm back to work on my fallen pups funeral train. The locomotive was finished several months ago. (mostly) and i just got the coaches and what not for the rest.

The train features a
1 Spectrum 4-4-0
1 Con-Cor Bagage
2 Bachmann Open Sided Excursion cars w/seats
2 Con-Cor Coaches

only thing missing on the loco is black bunting(tissue paper idea didn't work. going to womens clothing for option 2.......black tights it seems more flexiable

all cars will have interioros
1 of these will be converted into a coffin car....featuring a coffin

still some painting to do(mind you that these are hand painted with no masking!) and of course the decals
for car names I only have 2 so far

Coffin Car 123 "Fetch" the car number being her date of death, FEtch being her favorite game.

Open Air car TBA "Ball" since her favorite toy was a tennis ball and will be on a flat car as a part of the train when i can get another 34 flat to include on the train(to be painted up)

HO / how much is too much(Lincoln Funeral car)?
May 07, 2010, 10:04:28 AM
I've been after a Lincoln Funeral Car by AHM/Rivarossi .

I saw one at a train show for $90! I've seen em on ebay go for as high as $200.

I finally won one this week for $62(that includes S&H)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270572234544&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Did i spend too much? It says pocher but i'm sure only AHM/Rivarossi did those.

General Discussion / When will trucks learn....
March 23, 2010, 04:42:11 PM
...That you can't win against a train regardless of the type....

An accident between a Maryland MTA Lightrail and a tractor trailer happened today. Driver of the train was flown to shock trama and 2 others transported to area hospitals. I hear the crossing signals were working when the truck tried to beat the train.

HO / Hey Bach-Man!
February 19, 2010, 08:15:46 PM
How come the Royal Blue set I suggested about 2 years ago is coming out in N Scale but not HO Scale? I saw it on Walthers and a good friend of mine showed me the 2010 price list(where I saw it first)

Besides that there's only 1 thing that is on there I'd be interested in that hasn't been announced before.

Also any chance of you guys re-producing your Old time rolling stock? I know Roundhouse is doing old time stuff but mostly odd-ball road names, nothing in B&O, Philadephia and Reading(IE that Boscovs Exclusive), etc

HO / Model Trains as Memorials
January 17, 2010, 07:42:31 PM
As of this saturday my dog named Sarah will no longer be with us. I painted up a 4-4-0 that use to be Russian Iron Strips into a fictional B&O Scheme. I was originally going to paint it like the B&O Presidents but in blue instead of green. But along the lines i changed it to what you are about to see.

i still have some touchups and will take some better pictures tomorrow.
