Thomas & Friends / Thomas Quality
November 08, 2010, 07:07:34 PM
I'm curious as to the quality of the thomas the tank engine line of H.O electric train products, perticularly the engines of course.
Seeing as they would be aimed for the most part at smaller childern how do they stand up to the rough handling inherent with kids today.
I've been a model railroader for 30+years and know H.O motive power equipment can be quite delicate in most case's.
Right now my 4yr old grandson is happy with the  wood TTTE equipment which i feel is appropriate for his age ,whats the best age to maybe get him a starter set of powered equipment & track assuming of course his interest in trains does not fade...

HO / Bachmann 2-6-6-2
August 01, 2010, 05:28:16 PM
for the risk takers just wish to say the Bachmanns C&O 2-6-6-2s can be modified with a little daring to make a really great looking engine by eliminating its heritage and resembling more of a generic or railroad modified engine.
part that will make most nervous is taking a razor saw to the smokebox front  ;D

HO / Another 2-6-6-2 question
June 02, 2010, 11:25:22 PM
Has anyone removed or or been able to measure  the smokebox or more correctly its opening on the Bachmann 2-6-6-2? Would love to replace it it with a Cal-Scale brass Harriman style smokebox front which is advertised as 86".
Would like to replace the smokebox front in order to give it a more SOUTHERN PACIFIC look.

After a through and sucessful road test SP 3937 is seen taking a breather in the Tucson yards, only problem found was a loose check valve which was repaired and she'll be sent to the roundhouse for final inspection and a road assignment later in the week.

HO / Whistles on the USRA 2-6-6-2
November 20, 2009, 11:48:05 AM
Assuming the new release of the USRA 2-6-6-2 will be using the same Tsunami sound  system as the previous release can someone tell me which whistle sounds they have. I know they will be abreviated' 3 whistles rather than the normal 5 or 6 available in the normal Tsnamis.

Thanks.

HO / New C&O 2-6-6-2
July 22, 2009, 10:31:11 PM
Despite all the screaming and gashing of teeth over yet another ugh' Articulated may I say nice one Bachmann!! :-*
Seeing the preproduction picture just has me drooling, and this from a dyed in the wool Great Nothern fan.
Many have our own fictional railroad or  branchline or whatever...
I must admit that on seeing the first run of the 2-6-6-2 with the USRA tender and white sidewall drivers I was not at all really impressed, but this latest offering with slant cab and the VC12 tender And those huge compound cylinders has looked me in the eye and say's BUY'ME!! ......BUY'ME NOW!! LOL

HO / Adding weight to the Russian Decapod
August 18, 2008, 02:30:49 PM
Seeing as the Bachmann 2-10-0 Russian Decapod is rather light and can be quite slippery has anybody found a way to add some extra weight to the boiler to improve the traction and pulling power of this engine?
I understand the Russians were on the small size for their wheel arrangment but I'd still like to increase the tractive effort closer to the prototype.

HO / Spectrum DD40AX
May 14, 2008, 09:50:47 PM
Friend of mine has a pair of the Spectrum DD40AXs Numbers 81302 & 81306 that need traction tires replaced. He has the parts (tires & tool) but worries about removing the truck sideframes.
Looking at them I saw two pins on each sideframe ....will these just pull out or are they glued in? He doesn't wish to break trhe pin or frames getting them off...
