I am modifying a G scale Toby to run with a BlueRail board. Inside Toby, a set of orange and brown wires lead to a small round circuit board on the end of the motor. It seems to have some resistors and a few capacitors. What does this circuit board do? Can I leave this circuit board in place? (BlueRail uses the same pulse-width-modulation to run motors that a decoder does to run motors).

Are there keep alives in all Bachmann DCC SoundTraxx locos?

I have a friend (disabled) who has asked me about putting a decoder in his Grizzly Flats Emma Nevada. I am not super familiar wit this loco.

The product description says includes "circuit board to accommodate the control system of ... NMRA/NEM DCC).  Does this mean it has an 8-pin socket on it?

When I look through the parts online, I see 3 possible PCBs for 2-6-0s:

Does anyone know which one of these is in the Emma Nevada?

I have a pair of wires (which I am able to remotely control) that I would like to use as a momentary switch to trigger an E-Z Track turnout. I am able to momentarily complete the circuit on these 2 wires.  Can anyone please explain to me how I can use these 2 wires and wire them into an E-Z App turnout and trigger it?

Large / Adding a decoder to a DCC-Ready Climax
May 22, 2017, 06:13:10 PM
I would like to add a decoder to a DCC-Ready Climax. The Climax does not have an 8-pin socket as I imagined. Is there a plug that I can get that plugs into this loco so I can have connectivity with a standard 8-pin DCC decoder that plugs in?

If I could get the name of that plug (or a link) that would be great.

Also, is the DCC-Ready plug inside the boiler?

There are 4 colored wires that lead to small circuit boards that power the lights on a Williams GP-30:  red, black, yellow, blue.

Can someone please tell me what sort of power runs through these 4 colored wires?

Is black ground? Is red Track voltage? What are blue and yellow?

Any help is appreciated.

Large Scale Thomas has 2 wires that lead to the motors (yellow and brown). Does anyone know which wire is positive and which wire is negative?

Large / Plugin interface board wires for Bachmann C-19
December 23, 2016, 01:29:05 PM
For the C-19, Bachmann includes a plug-in interface board which plugs into the 23 pin socket with many wires that you would use to connect to a DCC decoder. Does anyone have a list of which wires from here you would connect to a standard higher amperage NMRA DCC decoder?

I would appreciate it.

Does the C-19 have an NMRA 8-pin connection point for DCC decoders?

Large / Stall and Slip current for a C-19
November 08, 2016, 12:06:25 PM
Can anyone give me the stall current and the slip current for a c-19?

Also, the promo video shows/describes a pigtail connector to allow connection to an "after market" sound system. Does anyone know what sound system are they referring to?

General Discussion / Bachmann DCC and analog mode
October 16, 2016, 08:38:17 PM
I am doing some tinkering with a Bachmann loco and have a couple questions: I notice if the loco doesn't receive a DCC packet for some certain period of time it switches to analog mode.

Is there any way to disable analog mode, or will this always happen?

Does anyone know how long a Bachmann loco will go without a packet before switching to analog mode?

Is this 'feature' limited to Bachmann DCC Locos, or do other decoders do this same thing?

Thank you

Large / Bachmann Large Scale 4-6-0 stall current

Does anyone know the approximate stall current of a Bachmann Large Scale 4-6-0?

If you have a multimeter, here is an article on how to determine it:

I'm trying to identify what all the wires are that lead to Bachmann boards. Where the wires come in, you'll see letters like: R, M+, L-, B+, L+, B-, M-, L.  I'd like to know what those all mean. Some of them I know:

R:    Right Rail
L:    Left Rail
M+: Motor positive
M-:  Motor negative
L+:  Light positive
L-:   Light negative

I have found L+/- can be used to designate any light, and doesn't sometimes distinguish between front or rear.

What does B+ and B- stand for?

Large / Tech details on Short Line Little Big Haulers
November 15, 2015, 04:28:25 AM
I am interested in the Short Line Little Big Haulers Large scale trains. Does anyone know what the track voltage is and what the stall current (amperage) is for these locos?  Thank you.
