HO / Supercharge a 0-4-0?!
August 12, 2009, 04:11:02 PM
Well, you know the old 1970's 80's controllers with th e wires conectiong to the track? i have2(bachmann and tyco) and use bachmann's. to day, i8 could not start my 0-4-0(no surprise their) So i tried to see if it worked with the older controller, nope, so i tried to put 1 wire on both sides of the engine and touch the copper pickup with them, they worked! then i put it back on the rails and i forgot to put the E-Z controller on 0 so it went flying! is this the best way to start a ho scale loco of any kind?!

HO / Is this possible? (2 questions)
August 07, 2009, 04:02:04 PM
Can you put a smoke generator in diesels? I have been looking at my 2 main projects(3 0-4-0s and the full roster and rolling stock of the C.V.S.R. http://www.cvsr.com/roster.aspx ) And i like to have them realistic.

Also, can you make your own decals? I need to make C.V.S.R. decals for this project.

General Discussion / Michigan show reveiw
July 26, 2009, 11:22:08 PM
Well, It was fun and great,to get into detail....

Getting their at 8:30ish, got great parking. i saw the Daylight's tender and was surprised! I thought it left Friday! So, waited in line to get in. 1225 was suppose to run but did not, so Nickle Plate Road 765 ran the day long train. The little river locomotives 1 and 110 i found going backwards. great show! they got hooked up to 1125 and pulled it up slightly to the ladder so people could go to the cab. they rested for a bit. the day long train left with a colorful line of passenger cars(Milwaukee Road, new york central, Ohio central and some commuter coaches from what i remember).  a diesel pulled the 1 hour train to the to the platform. then 110 ran light to the train. #1 then mdae it self at home while waiting for flag coal company#75 repaired the drive a steam engine trip. It go t 2 boxcars and put them so they know how far to go back and forth. #1 stayed steaming in the siding with another 0-4-0. All steamers were steaming, not all moved but were at least steaming. A 4-4-0 replica was moved around on the turn table about every hour after noon. Their were 3 layouts under a tent, O scale, Lego, and Ho scale. all had wonderful scenery. I got a laugh from a rat in a tunnel and one got caught in a mouse trap! they were fake. The miniature Railroad was more transportation style then riding, 2 stations, one at the front end and another at the back. You had to get back in line for a round trip. lots of steamers and diesels of many models and roads. The G scale was all live steam. A British 4-4-0 was slipping and its helper pulling with no problem. They switched models but was still great. The grand ending was N.P.R. 765 coming back from her trip. She has a LOUD Whistle! It was a beautiful sight! They came to the platform and cut her off so she could get ready for the night photos. A diesel had to pull the train up because it was so long, too long for the platform. They had to stop 3 times! It was a great show in all.

hope this gives you an idea, I would go into detail even more but it is hard, i might as well make a book! :o :D well, I'll put a link to the video that i taped when it is up on You tube. Hope you went!

July 24, 2009, 05:56:46 PM
I was running my 0-4-0 for a "Santa Fe marathon" and was thinking how amazing it looked.(i got it to go real slow and easy! :o)i got some ideas to make it perfect. I heard something about you could put a N scale DCC decoder into a 0-4-0. is this true? also is it possible to get a steam generator in it. if so, how and where can i get one?
the loco is a lifelike model. http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/lif/lif8302.htm

I am thinking about getting this in the fall but was wondering if anyone owns this already? http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/glp/glp7089.htm
it looks smart and good for me, it was gonna be another SD-24 but they're out of stock :(. I wanted another steamer or switcher and this caught my eye. I might go look up roadnames or just make it L&W paint.
questions- want to now
1. how mush it could pull
2.how does it run?good, bad, OK,etc.
that's it, thanks.

General Discussion / Railfan stories
June 20, 2009, 07:13:16 PM
I noticed that some people mention rare/interesting things things they see. I think that others out there might want to share but not make a short topic(like myself...) So i made this! Well I'll get this started. :)

Today, i went to berea after going to train day at a park. The only reason i stayed 3 hours was the CSX mainline bridge. Nothing special, BNSF coal and CSX intermodel and mixed freight trains. I liked the Triplex in G scale someone brought. :) Anyway, It was around 2:30 when we left and got their around 3ish. 4 other cars were their and their was 2 common comers other than myself. It was a nice day out. ;D about 2 hours later, I was walking towards the coach when my dad yells"Hey! you might wanna tape this! I looked and saw a N.S. auto, curious and confused i looked down the CSX line and saw a diesel that looked black. I backed up and taped the N.S. train. Then the CSX diesel came it was a grey CSX GP-40 with blue lettering! behind was a modified white box car with an American flag paint job with workers. Next a modified tanker spraying something. It smelled and not good(like sour milk)! Then a few more black tankers rolled by.i guessed it was a weed killer train. I loved it! It slowed down and I left around 5:00.
Their are many more rare things i would like to share but i will type them later. Let's here some of yours! :) ;) :D ;D

June 17, 2009, 11:35:47 AM
Hello,
I have this older loco that needs a new motor. The engine is a RS unit, I think rs-3...? Something like a can motor and that will take a DCC controller. Know where I can buy one?

General Discussion / School's out for summer!
June 10, 2009, 07:08:39 AM
Well I'm one of the last ones to leave...(every other school in cuyahoga county left!) so I'm bringing my friend Mike to see my trains! He is excited and i get off 12:00 so hopefully they behave! ;) (0-4-0 has not been doing well until running it for so long) And for me summer means: More Berea, Amtrak and probably road trip to Michigan! Also I could catch the noon freight too! So what are you guys doing? :):D ;D

Dear all, We all know the economy is not doing well, but do we see the price? Yes and No. I love going to the steel mill to watch trains, but before I did the steel mill was huge. Each "Island"(little place of the steel mill across the river) was used. It was not until the time when 2/3 of the great steel mill was took down to make a plaza did I actually go with my dad. I loved seeing the diesels shifting cars around and waving to the drivers. Then when late 2008 came... It was not every time I went did I see them switch. When 2009 hit. It was quiet. Then I went today and..... The gondolas Were mostly gone! I found 1 and a few tank cars on the American Crow side(http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=206860&nseq=10) of the yard. The CSX side was normal but I was upset to see most of the cars gone. Who knows what happened but they probably got stored somewhere. They made steel mostly for cars so it gives you an idea why. I hope to at least see these guys work one more time if they shut down. :(  I know this is not the only railroad but this is one if the many. :'( Hopefully they stay open but the damage is already done.
