HO / Re: Retry Hook & Loop Couplers
August 13, 2024, 09:22:54 AM
Me again, Len.  Your optimistic "nothing is impossible with a file & glue" got me thinking and looking. I have a Rivarossi 0-6-0 tank engine that runs like scalded cat, which is why I haven't used it. However, being an Italy manufactured loco, I checked it out. Although it had Kadees on it, the coupler pockets seemed to be designed for hook & loop also. For $3.85 I bought two replacement hook & loops. SUCCESS. The little loco coupled up and the consist ran great. Thanks for the "never give up" attitude.

Right. I spend al lot of time upstairs waiting for glue to dry in the basement.

Thanks Len, I'll look into it. I don't think it's feasible to change the tender and the front of the first passenger car to Kadees. Every once in a while I come up with these "you can't do that projects". Model railroading can be challenging. I don't mind a challenge.

Thanks Len, but here's what I'm trying to do. I have a Jouef Steam loco & tender with hook & loop European couplers. The tender provides the power & electrical pick-up. However only the rear 4 wheel truck of the tender does the picking up. The rear truck is about the same size as a typical freight car, so it tends to stall at some, but not all, switches. I was hoping to use the Bachmann 44 ton switcher behind the Jouef tender as an extra "oomph" to stop the stalling. The Jouef tender and the 44 tonner run at almost the same speed so I'm sure it will work if I can get them coupled up.

HO / Retry Hook & Loop Couplers

My previous post received lots of views but no replies so I'll try a new way. Will Bachmann's hook and loop couplers, in packaged product #78979, 3 pairs of hook & loop couplers, fit on a Bachmann 44 ton little diesel?

Mr. Bachman:
is there a way to install European style hook & loop couplers on a Bachmann 40 ton diesel? Looking to add behind a Jouef steam locomotive with powered tender to help eliminate to stalling because of the short wheel base on the powered tender. Thanks.  The front 4 wheel truck on the tender is geared the rear 4 wheel truck is the only electrical pick-up.

Are all Bachmann Doodlebugs identical. Will the custom shell I have fit on any Doodlebug chassis?

HO / Parts Availability
May 03, 2023, 08:11:20 PM
Mr. Bach Man:
As the quality, and the price, goes up on model locomotives, modelers, or at least I, will be taking better care of them and the increased quality will make them last a lot longer. Is there a "rule of them" that states how long replacement parts will be made and sold? It seems that the demand for parts will go up as the locos last longer. As an example, I was looking for a part for an Athearn switcher, that they still offer, and the part was no longer available. I believe auto makers must make replacement parts for 10 years and look how long cars are lasting now.

I believe MDC/Roundhouse made a considerable number of various Gorre & Daphetid rolling stock. I see some on e-bay.

I have cars with both metal & plastic wheels. There is an obvious difference between the two. However, my 10'X20' layout is a switching layout and I much prefer the plastic wheels to keep cars from rolling away when spotted.

HO / E-Bay Listing.

Can't resist. Listing on E-bay for a Bachmann PRR F7 shell states that someone has added hand rails and stagecoach style luggage racks on the roof.  Good laugh to start the morning.

How do you, safely, remove the shell from a doodlebug without damaging it?
