Title: DCC Controlled
Post by: Model Railroad Mistress on January 02, 2025, 08:18:14 PM
Hello the forum,
As I have given up on a twice around the Christmas tree layout due to limited space I have decided to go with a double circle or oval(two trains)going opposite directions and have decided to use dcc.
My question is can I use the same dcc controller to control both trains and if so is it more complicated than splicing into the track wire? And do both train have to be dcc?
Thank you.

There is a bit of a learning curve...but once You have experienced DCC and all it's glory...it will be well worth the time to learn

If You are using EZ-track it's easy...just buy another terminal rerailer

One DCC system will run both trains...I routinely run a dozen or more on the Digitrax DCS52

To get all the benefits both must be DCC...but You can operate one loop DC if needed until You are ready for the full-blown switch

Set aside a couple track sections (off the layout) for programming

JonJet thanks for the info. I'll have all year to learn before Christmas.

There is another option available if your locos are DCC ready.  Install Blunami decoders.  There a bit more expensive then a normal sound DCC decoder. But you do not need to buy a DCC system.  You can control more then one locomotive from a Phone or tablet via a Bluetooth APP and the app has full control of all the decoders settings.  And they can use DC, DCC or battery for a power source. So you can use your current DC power pack.
