Title: Flux ?
Post by: knucklebuster283 on December 09, 2024, 05:34:14 PM
Building an n scale 3'x5' layout. Got track laid out, went out bought a soldering iron flux and .8mm solder. Got half of joints soldered took a break. Started reading flux package to find what to use to clean flux from the track, noticed then it's non electrical flux. Is it a big deal or do I have to redo all the rail joints. My first time soldering.

Or did I ruin the track

You can always un-solder the track and clean it if you feel you made an oopsie, but as long as the track is connected and volts are going through the rails you should be fine. If the flux is not acid based or nonacidic, you should be fine.

Guess I'm redoing it. Flux is an acid based paste.

Just curious are soldering Flex track together or sectional track?   Soldering N scale track is tricky not to cause the track to go out of gauge by over heating the rail and softening or melting the ties.
