Title: Removing motor from a 4-8-4 steamer
Post by: PA Dave T on December 07, 2024, 11:46:58 AM
I have a Burlington Route 5601 that the headlight illuminates but the unit will not run. I'm not sure how old this unit is, I picked it up in the late 70s or early 80s. The number stamped on the side of the chassis is 81922. This unit also has an active tender. I have 14.7 volts DC coming from the truck to the side rail of the frame but no voltage to the motor pick-ups. I'm trying to remove the motor but There are no diagrams on the web site that show a similar motor or chassis set-up.

Any suggestions? this unit was/is in too good of shape to just scrap

This sounds like a good candidate to put a can motor in.  You may have to pay a tech to do it.

I don't know how good of shape it's in. The drivers are out of quarter, and even if the motor does work it can't turn the wheels with the rods like that. You might have a broken axle.

I'm slipping.  I never saw the rear driver all catawampus with the rest of them.  Good catch Jeffrey.
