Title: Please Help! Pressed for time! DCC
Post by: docaab on November 29, 2009, 12:05:48 PM
Can anyone tell me if older Pre-DCC EZ track turnouts are compatible with Bachmann DCC Command or do I have to replace all of them? I am converting the Christmas On30 layout to DCC this week! Also can I use DCC equipped turnouts in conjunction with these older turnouts? Finally how do I power the old turnouts in a DCC environment? Thanks!

Use a standard power pack/transformer to power all of your non-DCC accessories (switches and lights). The DCC turnouts can either be operated with a DCC system or manually. The non-DCC turnouts are operated as standard DC turnouts.

All Turnouts are compatible with DCC. It's just that some are more compatible.
I would use a separate power supply to throw the switches...like an old powerpack. The switch motors draw more amperage than an engine & may trip the circuit breaker & will slow down any engine on the track.
I think you could eventually harm the system especially if it's a low amperage system like the Bachmann if you use it to throw switches.   Jerry
