Title: decoder selection for k-4
Post by: rbtvgo on November 26, 2009, 09:13:52 AM
I have a k-4 that is DCC ready. Can anyone recommend a decoder that would work well in this loco. Would like to have all the features including sound. I know that there are a lot of choices out there. What do most people recommend?  Does anyone know of any magazine articles that were published on this, (Specifically a k-4 decoder install)?

Dear RB,
Try Soundtraxx. You'll love their sound!
Have fun!

Get a Tsunami light steam decoder.

suggestions below. a tsunami micro might works also. do not know what current the loco draws. if around 0.5 amp, the micro is good for 0.75 amp. I use the micros.
you would need a 8 nmra pin plug soldered to the decoder wires to plug into the pc board.
speaker install might be an issue. i have not seen the inside of the tender.
this will not be plug and play.

others will have suggestions.
