Just curious how fast other people's Climax locos are moving.  Mine moves at a slow but steady clip around the track (haven't measured time/distance yet).  I know the prototypes didn't have the need for speed, but I want to make sure that mine is operating as intended.  FWIW, I'm running DC only on the On30 track.

It is very unusual for a model to be made to run smoothly and slowly right out of the box but that is the way Bachmann made the On30 Climax. Sounds to be running normally. Us old-timers consider it a rare treat, normally we have to spend hours trying to get that sort of performance.

hehe..ok, i'll chalk it up to good luck then :) thanks :)

Just as an FYI, the prototype could make about 12 mph on a good day, so your model is just fine.  The Climax was generally considered the slowest of the geared engines; the Shay about the same or a bit better.  The Heisler was the fastest, and by that we mean maybe 25 mph.
