Hi there, I am new to Bachmann HO trains, I would like to ask what is the difference between, a GP40 listed here for $45.00, code 63501. It just says 8 wheel drive, and a GP35 listed for $53.00 code 11517, it says  8 wheel drive 5 pole skew wound motor. Does the Gp35 just have a better motor or something.

It could related to the features and quality of the locomotive. Lets see, one (GP40) has only 8-wheel drive, the other (GP35) has 8-wheel drive and a 5 pole screw wound motor. I think it's the motor. The 5 pole screw wound motor is probably better than the standard motor inside the GP40. Either way, your still getting a good locomotive.

Sincerely,
Green Diamond.

The GP40 is UP, no numbers on the side or number boards, basic UP 2 tone colors.

The GP35 is Santa Fe, number boards, Warbonnet colors and silver trucks.

As far as we know, Bachmann went back to 3 pole motors. The advantage of 5 pole is to prevent cogging, which doesn't seem to be an issue.
