I purchased three dcc equiped diesel engines for my new dc layout.
It said on the literature they could run on a dc track and two came with a set of jumper .
Do I have to remove the decoder and install the jumpers before running on the dc track.
I will be installing a MRC Prodigy Advanced Squared controller at a later date but would like to try the engines first.
Is ther anything else to do before running the engines.

The locos should work just fine with the decoders still in them.

You should run the locomotives on DC power until they are thoroughly broken in before putting them on DCC power. Make sure they are smooth running with no hesitations or signs of any binding.

Run the locos at varied speeds, both forward and backward for at least 30 minutes, longer if necessary. During initial break in check for any heat buildup in the motor.  For final break in add a few cars to put a slight load on the motor.

A well broken in locomotive is a happy locomotive.   8)
