>:(This model runs very poorly and constantly stalls and needs a push and it isn't a track issue or breaking in time because all my other Athearn and brass imports locos run fine.  I just want to complain, it just isn't respectable to produce poor quality locos.   All model locos should come out of the box and run fine and that is not the case with many Bachmann models.  If anyone knows what needs to be done to make this 4-4-0 run better let me know.  It is real frustrating that Bachmann cannot work the bugs out or just lacks quality control in the production of their models.   I was warned by the other modelers that 50% of these models are known to have running issues but often you just cannot test the locos before buying them.

Dear Forfun,
Try a little conductive lube on the wheel treads and backs. If this doesn't help, exchange the loco for a new one. These locos usually run excellently out of the box.
Happy Holidays!

Not to be a "goody two-shoes" but I have to agree with Bach Man. I have two of the new Spectrum 4-4-0s (one with DCC, and one with DCC/sound) - both of them run extremely well. I use Peco track and small radius turnouts (Electrofrog) which [possibly] enhances the good running qualities of these engines. One cannot compare these fine models with the Bachmann DCC Americans of yore...which ran poorly (if at all). Bachmann has come a long way from the older, cheapo trainset locomotives that were offered at a low price point.

The long and short of it is that you must either have a conductivity problem OR got one of the bad ones (the Chinese aren't infallible). If you can't straighten it out...send it back to Bachmann. I have found this to be a reputable company that hasn't been around for 175 years by not pleasing the customer. Let us know how you made out.

After reading your first sentence again, after the " because ", first question to mind is are you mixing DCC with DC operations ?

BaltoOhioRRfan

Are you running DC or DCC?

IF Running DC Do this:

Remove the tender load, pop out the DCC chip, and put in the two jumpers per the instructions(two metal 3 prong peices in a  little bag) I know they will run right outta the box on DC but you get much better responce with the plugs,

I own 7 Spectrum 4-4-0s and all run like champs. My only problem with em while running is when the pilot comes loose and gets caught in the track. i fixed that with a drop of glue.
