Spectrum pency 4-6-2

I have a spectrum pency 4-6-2 that I want to use another tender on.  Will it run without the tender?  Is there any way to make it run without it?

Real Steam Locomotives can't run without tenders and model ones need the electronics in the tender and the tender wheel pickups to run. You can put any tender you want on your Pacific as long as the circuit board will fit in it. I havent bought a model steam Locomotive in 15 years where I ran it with its original tender as I modify them to Canadian prototypes with Canuck style tenders.

I don't plan to run without a tender, I want to use another.  I am going to model the southern Tennessean which has a tender that has 12 trucks not the 8 that are on the model currently.  I have another tender but it does not have the pick up's on the wheels.
