Found Train Set

Got a question for the forum.
My wife found a train set at a garage sale.
I cannot find anything on the internet and we are not sure what we have.
It's as listed;
Bachmann No Scale Electric Train Set.
GP-40 diesel 5 car set, with power pack.
Number  0224-2995 Burlington.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi LSBMan,

Checking our records, your set is one of Bachmann's very first HO train sets.

It was first shown in our catalog in 1970, the first year we catalogued HO scale trains, and stayed in the catalog for the next two years.

While we can't give an appraisal of its value, it's definitely a classic!

The Appraisal value of any used HO set, any brand, any scale, any age is close to zero.  The untrue myth persists that any old model train is worth its weight in gold.

You can also almost be certain that the train will not run if it is sat idle all these years.

It would appear that this set predates the pancake motor era. These locomotives were built like tanks, very heavy. I believe the drive itself was good enough to be used in some brass diesels of the era. The drive is pretty similar to what Bachmann uses to-day in the way it was laid out, except that the trucks were held in place with a metal pin through both the chassis and the truck itself, rather than the bolster screw on top of the gear tower Bachman currently uses.  I'd imagine parts are almost impossible to find.

I went to set it up and see what may work.
It appears that I'm missing some cable that goes from the transformer to the track.
