I just bought the pennsylvania set and it rruns smooth and quiet. ITS ALSOa beautiful set. has anyone had any gear problems with the updated drives in these trains.

There was more than one PRR set  If yours is called "The Pensylvanian" #90082, Then Yes the gears are the latest version 5 Chassis, and should give you good service.

Be sure to lube your locomotive in accordance with instructions.

Enjoy your new set!!

I would just keep an eye out on the two small screws that hold the gear box to the motor.  Mine came loose and stripped the gears.  You might want to take the screws out and add some lock tite.
