Well if Boats are She's then trains should be characterized by a gender as well.

IMHO, diesels don't have gender.  Steam locos, on the other hand, were very often referred to in the feminen gender, for much the same reasons as boats.

Tons of people refer to locomotives, steam and diesel, as "she"..
its a tradition going back hundreds of years. IMO, a locomotive should ALWAYS be referred to as "she"!
"it" is far too impersonal, and lacks the proper respect.

Giving mechanical machines a female gender probably started with boats/ships thousands of years ago..it also applies to ships, automobiles, airplanes, trains, and mechanical machines of all sorts.

They (machines) are beautiful to behold, inspire awe as we watch them, help us do things better, Civilization as we know it would be impossible without them!, but they can also be cantankerous, require much upkeep and maintance, can be difficult to keep happy operating well, require proper respect and care at all times or they will break down, then still often break down for reasons we cant understand, and the proper repairs are often difficult to determine..but we couldnt live without them, and they make our lives better.  Their study is an endless obsession for all of mankind throughout history.

Slip of the tongue refering to a locomotive as "he" will not lead to a slap across the face, right? Like a human would do?* :D

*No sexist comment intended.

This Polish locomotive was repowered recently.

Who made the prime mover inside the body?

Nope!
General Motors does not assemble large prime movers other that autos, light trucks, and diesel-electric drives for buses.
