I have a 4-6-0 train set. The wheels of the pilot truck came out. Also, the rear wheel axle (which is plastic) is broken as well. How can I repair this or replace both? This set has the old pilot truck. According to Bachmann's website, they are out of stock and these wheels come with metal axle rods. If available, will they be compatible or do I need to stick to the plastic ones?

As you can see on the pilot truck, the "axle tube" has split and is no longer holding pilot wheels in place.
Bachmann has an improved version that is a plastic core (for electrical isolation) combined with a metal outer sleeve to reduce splitting.

I have used them and they work great. Use may have to use a C-Clamp to get the wheels properly seated into the tube.

Hi Daniel  This will work as a complete replacement it is the improved version, and you would have to drill one hole to attach it.  https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69_671_148&products_id=8545
