Is this (90040) chassis going to work on an old 1996 EBT (90085)?

Not sure what is different from 90037, other than the red front:

I assume both 90037 and 90040 are both "version 7".  Version 5, of course, is MIA, nowhere to be found.

Sorry, I'm totally new to large scale.  I did read through the Repair post, and it has decent info, but was updated in 2021, and it is not clear what "version" is on the Bachmann site, or what challenges I might run into trying to use this part on an older set. Also not clear what might be different about the tender.

Hi dapug,

No need to be sorry, we are here to help when we can.  The chassis listed are under the heading "standard line"  so either of the chassis 90037 or 90040  will work just fine on your EBT locomotive. The standard line chassis are all version 5. There are no changes to the tender, and you can use yours as is. The 90037 has the Walshearts type valve gear(side rods) while the 90040 has the Stepenson type valve gear, and there are color differences as you noted. Just pick the one that best matches your EBT colors.

If you need any further help doing the replacement just post it here and our forum memberd will be sure to help you out.

Happy Holidays,
