Is the ESU LOKSOUND 5 XL decoder physically and electronically compatible with the Bachmann Large Scale Climax 85093? Is it truly plug and play or is modification and soldering needed?

starting at the beginning, what does ESU say?

I've just finished installing a LokSound 5XL into a wreck of a three-truck Shay that has no circuit board (see my post about firebox circuitry) with an Airwire receiver and a 14.8V LiIon battery and it is happily driving all three trucks on the rolling road as I write.

Will be few weeks before it is finished with fixing broken parts the first step, and then painting and weathering the way I do my 1:48 stuff (see Narrow Gauge DownUnder October issue for my "Winch #3" diorama and other forums).  This is my first foray into Large Scale.

I have a new Climax to convert the same way except I'm going to convert it to a three trucker (have 3D printed sideframes and Bachmann wheels as a start).

LokSound 5XL and CVP Airwire conversion is now finished and the Shay has had many successful running days (lasting all day on the LiIon battery in the water tank).

Only "issue" is the sound stops if the transmitter and receiver lose momentary contact and the locomotive stops if connection is totally lost (I'm quite happy with that as I'd rather it didn't keep running without me knowing what it was doing).

Experience with ESU LokSolund 5XL decoder and Bachmann 81487 Eureka and Palisade. Bi directional communication between engine and ESU Cab Control works when you do not connect the Bachmann PCB05 DCC jumper wires "GND"(black) and "B+" (blue) to the decoder. Thanks for advice from Stan Ames.
