On30 Trolley car set

Question-Is there any way to increase the speed/power of the trolley sets?  Mine runs awful slow, and only works with the car that came with the set.  I also have a "Hershey" trolley that runs just fine on my On30 layout, but barely moves on the trolley set.  The controller dial only changes the duration of the stop at each end, it has nothing to do with speed.  Ideas?

I do not have the trolly set, so I can't speak to that specifically.  I do have a couple United Traction trolleys and have tested them.  They run fine IMO... perhaps you're used to running stuff fast, but I think trolleys, railbuses, geared locos, etc aren't made to run 'fast'.  With that said, they don't run unbearably slow.

Now, to your question about alternatives.  You can run the trolleys with another controller, like this one below.  It has momentum and you can add a station stop, or several, between the end points.  They have a version without station stops if you want that.  I've purchased from them, and they ship very quickly and should arrive within 2 weeks, but probably sooner.

Tom:  When I said they run slow, I mean REALLY slow-almost stalled.  I also wouldn't run trolleys (or anything else, for that matter) "fast", that's why I'm wondering if there's a problem with my "car barn" from where the power emanates.

Probably a silly question, but is this your only track, or can you test it on another track/power supply?  Has this thing been sitting for a long time?  Maybe it needs to be serviced and lubed?

If you have a meter, test the voltage on the track and see if its seems correct, and changes with the speed control from the barn (I assume there is some speed control?)

Tom-Never a silly question-Yes, all my trolleys run fine when placed on my regular layout-interior lights light, directional headlights light, I can run them very slow or as fast as they will go, depending on how I turn the controller.  There is no controller for the trolley set, just a plug-in power source and a dial on the car barn that determines the length of time the trolley "dwells" in the station or at end of track.  I even connected a regular power pack to the car barn to see if that would help, but apparently there is something in the car barn that will not allow the speed to change, no matter where you set the controls on the power pack.  That's why I wondered if there was some kind of internal control that could be accessed in order to change speeds.  The set is really nice, and I hate to not use it.

Hmm.  Well, I guess your only choice is to pop the hood on that beast (the barn controller) and see what's in there, if it's even possible to open it up....  Anything is possible though, just depends on how much surgery you want to do to it.

I guess it's probably out of warranty?  As said, check the voltage on the track, and also be sure the track and rail joiners are clean.  Obviously it's a power issue, so it's either the controller or the track/connections.

Even if you had to resort to a new controller, you can still use the barn and track, you'll just need a heart transplant in the barn.

ADDED:  Oh, I re-read your original post, and didn't catch that you had another track, or that you mentioned the lack of speed control.  Reading is fundamental.
