80 T shay

I have a 80 ton shay DC. It runs fine for 12" then slows down. It will run fast if I stop then start again. It then dose the same thing. Any suggestions.

Maybe it's the power source instead of the locomotive. Check with a multi meter. And try the engine on some other layout with a different power source.
