Bachmann Speed Control

I bought a HO Pacific Flyer train set and it came with the 44211 controller.  I want to expand the circle into an oval with some switches.  Do I have to buy the 44212 controller with the 16V AC terminals to do that?

No. Any power supply between 14-16V, AC or DC, rated at least 1 amp can be used to power the switches. Many use an old 'wall-wart' type power supply they have laying around. Just make sure it's rated 1 amp (1000ma) or better.
