New Railroad (sorta) part V (preview)

Don't know about you guys, but my 'subjects' are getting longer...

Previously on part IV, I said I' be back with what I'd be working on after Christmas.  I had this small yard laid out
for another layout that didn't get built.  Since I had it leftover I thought I'd install on this layout.

On the lower left was going to be a two stall engine house and other service facilities around the small yard.

Here I have it partially installed on my new layout.  Still planning at this stage.

Here it is from the front.  I'm still playing around with buildings, and other detail items.

Here it is from the back, I have enough space to extent all the tracks to use for more storage if needed.

Another angle.  That curved track in the lower right of this photo will be an 'interchange' track.
On the wall to the right I hope to eventually install 'building flats' to show outskirts of a larger town/city.

There will be an interchange office on the distant end.

This is just another view showing the 'open spaces' that will eventually be filled with 'ground work'.

And last but not least, a revival of part III.
With the creek coming in from the back at a lower elevation from that of which I already installed
downriver, I had to lower the upper water fall as it traveled under the rails above it.  Make sense ?

The 'white' you see under the arch is the creek bed before it 'flows' under the bridge.

So much for the preview, I'll be updating as I go along...

Hi Sid,

the room is 12 feet by 28 feet and the railroad fills a space of about 9 by 18.
It's a rough U-shape.  One leg is about 9 feet from the base which is about 18 feet and
the second comes out at a 45degree angle for 9 feet also.  It leaves a lot of land
available for future acquisition....but there is this certain land Baroness to contend with.

The Boss is a hard one to negotiate with, eh? ;)

Are you eventually going to weather the newer hoppers like the rest, or are they just for show?

Ken Huck

Those new hoppers and one gondola are all Bachmann items that the Baroness picked up locally
an antique shop here in town.  The guy (just happens to be a neighbor of mine) who owns the
shop switched gauges and didn't need them anymore.  I still have to switch out the hook-horn
couplers and when I eventually clear my workbench, I'll get to weathering everything.

Thanks for the interest

Enjoying the progress. Fun to follow. I notice you have added around seven new turnouts by adding the yard tracks. Adding turnout motors? Do you use the hand operated switch levers. Just wondering...

Regards,

Jonathan

Good question Jonathan.  I've been tinkerin' with several different brands of switch machine.  Micro-Mark makes
a slow-motion "switch tender" that I've found to be the easiest to install.  It works similar to the Tortoise machines.
Another brand, American Limited Quiet Drive has a lot of parts to assembly but has a power shut-off at the end of
the 'throw'.  The points are held tight up against the stock rails by a 'screw' drive mechanism.  And of course, I have
quite a few of Caboose Industries ground throws and high-stands for those right up front turnouts that can be
reached by hand.  Oh, and I've actually added ten new turnouts if you count the interchange track and one other
short stub by the coaling tower.

Thanks for asking.

Ken

BTW:  How are your mountains coming along ?

Ken,

Are you using [i m g] [/i m g] tags (without the spaces) around your picture links? I'm just seeing small white squares in your posts that I have to right click on, then select 'view image' to see the picture. If I take the URL for the pic that comes up and put it between the tags in a reply, then do 'Preview' the pic shows up fine. So I'm wondering what's going on??

Len
If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

I see his photos just fine.

Might be your browser settings.

Ken I see several Missouri Pacific cabooses.  Are you modeling the Mopac in some form?

You got it. I have 'block social media trackers' set to strict. And apparently Ken is linking to pics on FarceBook, which tracks everything. So the brownser's not letting them show up. At least I think "scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net' is FarceBook.

So I'll just keep right clicking to see the pics, because I don't want FarceBook nozing around my PC.

Hi Len,  I think that's what I'm doing.  I use that bracket thingy and put the 'photo' between the
two imgs.  I have a separate facebook page (with no friends) that I use solely for a photo host.

As far as MoPac, if I see something with their colors, I try to get it just for fun.  I grew up around
MoPac before the merger.  I got a couple of drover caboose kits that I believe I may have all the
necessary parts to finish them.  They're LaserKits by American Model Builders.  Can't wait to get
started on them.  If I can find my MoPac steam engine decals don't be surprised if you see a
Shay or two and some Climaxes running around with Mop logo.

Thanks for looking everybody.

I just tried changing my settings from standard to strict and the pics disappeared so that's what it is. I changed mine back to standard.
Every few days, I go to "options", then "privacy and security", then "cookies and site data", and then  "manage data". Then I go through and delete most of the "cookies".
I visited Sear's site one time yesterday and it left 8 cookies. Looking for something on Overstock.com yesterday left 26 cookies. I don't need all those cookies on there.
If you have never done that, imagine how many thousands of cookies you have stored on your computer from places you might have visited once or twice years ago.

There's a great on line build guide for the AMB drovers caboose.  I have 2 kits of each type.  I bought 2 already-built Silver Streak versions so it may be awhile for me.

Way back in the Jurassic we lived at the end of a 50 mile Mopac Branch.  No supervisors anywhere.  We kids had the run of the Roundhouse, the yard office and all the cabooses, and got quite a few cab rides in the yard.  No wonder I model it to this day.
