Help!! Sound quit working on my Thunder Chief set

rich1998

What is your DCC controller?
What is the last thing you did? We need details.

Using E-Z Command (came with the Thunder Chief set)

Last thing I did before no sound was to turn it off.  Next time no sound in loco.  With function key depressed, no horn (f2) - no bell (f1) - no short horn (f3).  f(10) for light still works.  (f8) does nothing

Normally when a decoder acts up, you do a decoder reset but you cannot do that with the EZ Command. It is in the manual.
You need to find someone with system that can do it.
It sounds like power is getting to the track since a light came on but users of the system here might know more.
Your system can only program the loco number and run the loco.
CV 8, enter 8. Cycle track power. Headlight should flash sixteen times and the loco run on address 3. There might be something else but that is normally the first thing to do. What I would do.
That question has popped up here a few times before.
When you find someone with a system that can do it but they will know how to do it.

Hi Rich

Thank you, I greatly appreciate your responses.

I am brand new in the HO game.
Could you elaborate on your comment "CV 8, enter 8. Cycle track power."

I am new to forums as well.  In case the above doesn't work - how do I find someone with a system that knows how to fix my problem.

With a DCC system that can do this, most can, enter CV 8 in the programming procedure and enter 8. Cycle the track power., off and back on. After about six seconds, the loco light, lights should flash sixteen times and the loco run on address 3. if the reset was successful.

I believe Hunt posted that a couple years or so ago. I have the link somewhere.

A few other decoder brands have different procedures.
Try to find a hobby shop in your area that handles DCC.
For some reason, Bachmann did not allow this with the EZ Command.

Hi Rich

Your right - no way to enter CV 8 with EZ command.  Wonder why Bachmann makes it difficult.  This is a Brand new Thunder Chief set I ordered from Bachmann.  I think they want another 40 bucks if I send it back for repair.  Seems like a lot so I'm off to the hobby shop for some answers.

Thanks for your help.

I guess because it was their first venture into DCC, a starter system. Same thing with the MRC2K I had.
Others have run into that and a few more will. It is still not a total waste as some here will say. Upgrade to Dynamis seems pricey though. Shop around.
Even my first system got me started.

Thanks Rich for sticking with me on this.

I'm having fun with my initial purchase until decoder problems.  I see future expenses in the horizon to make it even more enjoyable.  I can now see where fortunes have been spent on this addicting hobby.

Have a great day - hope to talk to you in the future.
