Trolley set up and reversing track for On 30

Do you need to have the Trolley shed control unit to use this track with a trolley set up or can a 9" power rerailer with transformer be used to create a trolley village set up? Also since I am new to using reversing track do all pieces need to be reversing for this function to work?.

You must use the shed.
You must use the reversing track.

I'm not a trolley person though, so I could be wrong.
