DCC and Empire Builder

I am new to the hobby and to the board. Can I install DCC in the engine that comes with the Empire Builder set??? DCC sounds neat!!!

I'm sure that you could- as long as you can solder and recognize colors. I don't think that it comes with a NMRA 8-pin plug.

Only Walters/LL N 0-8-0 comes with a NMRA plug. For most Atlas/Kato diesels, it's easier to swap the lightboard for a decoder.

It may be easier to put a decoder in Bachmann's N&W J. They may be still available at some Etailers for $100. Also, check out Bachmann's new tenders. They may supply improved contact for getting power into the loco & wiring the decoder.
