I was wondering if the Williams electronic reverse units / True Blast sound units are compatible for installation in Postwar Lionel locomotives, in place of the mechanical reverse units and air whistles (steam loco tenders) or battery powered horns (diesel locos), or are the Williams electronic reverse units / True Blast sound units, specifically designed for use in locos equipped with the DC can motors, only.
Any info, would be greatly appreciated.

The reverse unit motor outputs are DC, for can motors. In theory they could power the old 'universal' P/W open frame motors, but reversing the polarity of the DC would not change the direction. You would still need the electromechanical e-unit to flip the field coil connections.

I've used The sound unit to replace the air whistle in a tender, and horn in a larger diesel (F3). There might not be room in a smaller diesel. You just have to play with the connections to get them connected so the default sound is the whistle/horn vs the bell.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
