A good start with wood craftsman kits is the old "Silver Streak" line now sold by Ye Olde Huff and Puff. They are easier than the La Belle kits and don't make as nice a car with the parts supplied, but they are not as big an investment either.

With better ladders, grab irons, brake equipment, etc., though, they can be transformed into contest winners.
