Shay front truck not picking up power

My new Shay front truck is not picking up power.   I unscrewed the  the bottom plate to investigate allowing one of the ball bearings to fly out.  Found the ball, not sure if the spring is lost, do not see it.   Do not see any way to repair.   Any ideas?
