can you get adapters to hook up old trains to new ones

just wondering if there are adapters or anything that you can get to hook up older trains to new ones

Most people make a "transition car" to do that. Old style coupler on one end, newer knuckle coupler on the other. The alternative is to use IHC of Texas "Mate-A-Matic" couplers: http://www.ihc-hobby.com/product/19001 They look oversize and clunky, but they mate with old style X2F couplers and knuckle couplers.
