can someone tell me if I can set the headlight on my Southern Pacific 4449 to dim and brighten continuosly, and if so, how to chznge the cv settings ? It has the lowly factory installed decoder on board.

The HO scale Bachmann Southern Pacific 4449 installed decoder does not support a Mars Light lighting effect. You will have to replace the decoder with one supporting lighting effect you want.

Headlight can be turned ON/OFF with function zero (F0). Program CV51 to select which function F1 to F8 will be used to change headlight from ON/OFF to ON/DIM lighting effect. Program CV52 to control brightness level.
