How to operate a DCC

Hi I am very new to DCC is it possible for a DCC locomotive to be set on a track and adjust the throttle on the power pack to say 1/4 and the loco will ring the bell and slowly start out and increase speed as it goes or is there additional equipment required Thanks

Depending on the DCC system and the decoder you can ring the bell when you want or set it to automatically ring under supported circumstances.  This is covered in the decoder and DCC system User's Guide.

if you have a dcc system capable of doing programming, cv3 is the momentum adjustment. momentum control slowly ramps up the voltage when you turn up the throttle. the higher the value programmed here, the longer the lag time to accelerate to your chosen throttle setting. cv4 does the same with deceleration.

Thank you for the information, question, can you program the loco on one system and run it on a track with no DCC system hooked up ? Will it still respond as it was set up on the first system?

the short answers are yes you can run a dcc locomotive on dc powered track as long as you haven't changed the settings to disable that feature. and no, any momentum settings you applied will not work on dc. in fact, the decoder will use up about half the available voltage from the dc controller before the locomotive will start to move, and your locomotive will not run as well as it did on dcc. this is true regardless of any programming adjustments you made to the decoder.
