So Bachman does not equip this model with sound.
Is there a decoder I can install and does the train come sound "ready"?

You can plug any standard DCC sound decoder into the 8 pin socket in the model. You will also need to mount a speaker and connect it to the sound decoder.

You can put it anywhere you want, I would put it on the floor of the tender or inside the top of the shell and drill small holes for it if there aren't any yet.

Any Bachmann DCC system will work as well as most other DCC stystems but not all DCC systems will be able to program all DCC decoders (especially if you have an older system or decoder).

If new to DCC, the below fellow use to run an online DCC company, Litchfield Station. He has lots of good DCC info so take your time looking at all his links. He is very active in the MRH forums and that link is in his site.
He does favour Tsunami decoders also.
Look, especially in Curriculum, SoundTraxx Tsunami.

SoundTraxx also has a new Econami decoder. Check their site.
This decoder is being discussed quite a lot in the Yahoo SoundTraxx site.
Bachmann does favour SoundTraxx.
If you use the 9 pin to 8 pin adapter, all you have to solder is the two speaker wires.

Recommended decoders and speakers for Bachmann locos.
There is really no one way to do this if you have installation experience.
You probably know but Bachmann does not sell sound decoder.
