Easiest N scale coupler conversion?

Hello all -

I have purchased several vintage, n scale, Old Time passenger cars that have truck-mounted Rapido couplers.

I am assuming the simplest and least hassle method to convert to a knuckle coupler would be to unscrew the entire truck and simply replace with a truck that has a knuckle coupler mounted to it.

Does anyone know the type/model of the truck that would be best for this purpose?

Thanks in advance

ACY

Microtrains has a wide assortment compatible with older Bachmann rolling stock.

Yes but I cannot find this specific passenger truck among their lengthy list (tried uploading picture, would not work); http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c68/sdegaetano/Truck.jpg

Athearn and Wheels of Time both make two-axle "Pullman Standard" passenger trucks like that.

Athearn -

Wheels of Time -

Athearn used to sell them through their parts department (and maybe still do). They call them "Commonwealth" trucks (catalog #90629).

Wheels of Time sells them from the accessories page on their website - http://www.wheelsotime.com/accessories/

You can keep the existing trucks.  Simply purchase the MT 1133 coupler kits.  If you plan to operate on really sharp curves, purchase 1134s, as they are merely 1133s with longer shanks.   Purchase the MT  coupler tweezers, as well.   It is not difficult to do the change.

1133 and 1134 are almost universal for older B-mann.

True, but the Athearn trucks also appear superior in detail to the older Bachmann trucks. This is splitting hairs I know but important if the passenger cars will spend most of their time in a display case.
