Swapping Tenders on DCC Engines

I have a Spectrum 2-6-6-2 without sound and a Spectrum 2-10-2 with sound.  since I run the 2-6-6-2 more often at my club, is it possible to switch the tenders so that the 2-6-6-2 will have sound?  Both locomotives appear to have the same plug-in arrangement between the engines and tenders.

If they in fact both have the same connections they will work but the sound from the decoder will be incorrect.

Why not just get a Tasumi or a Lok-Sound decoder and programme in the sounds that are appropriate?  Cheaper in the long run
