Newbie with a question

I have a ER & WNC locomotive and coal car with no directions.  Does a 9 volt battery that is put into the coal car power the locomotive too?

If this is a Large Scale locomotive it is powered with a DC Transformer (with speed controller) that plugs into the wall.

The 9 volt battery in the tender is for the "Chuff Chuff" sounds.

BTW -  What you are referring to as coal car is a tender, as in locomotive tender.
