I have purchased two UP 4-8-4's that need repairs.  Before I can finish assembling them I need a very clear (detailed) picture of the steam gear on both sides of the engine.  I know one of the pivot points is out of place, but I don't know where it should be.  Both engines have the same problem.  Can (will) anybody provide pictures to solve my problem?  I really like these engines.

Thanks

Google is your friend.

Google "steam locomotive valve gear" and you will find lots of illustrations and information on how steam valve gear works.

Two cylinder engines the valve gear is at 90 degrees opposed so first you need to know is which side "leads".

It can be a complicated subject that you will need to read up on.  Repairing a steam loco's valve gear is not a project to be lightly undertaken, even for experienced steam modellers.

You will also need to learn the terminology so we know more clearly what you are asking.

Cheers
