proper way to hook up a g scale hershey trolly

I have a elderly friend who I always hook her trolley up her trolley for Christmas. Somehow she misplaced her power supply so her daughter went and got a new one but I am not sure it is  the correct one.there's no place to hook up the wires which are very thin. Should there be a power clip that clips to the track and the wires attach to that. I got it working but it just doesn't seem correct.   thanks for your time   tom   717-421-0736
