how would you recommend laying the 50 x100 grass layout onto my board, what type of adhesive is best?

Back in the day, when I used the grass mat, I had it over a 4 x 8 foot board and used a staple gun to staple it to the 2 x 4s that made up the frame work.  I would unroll the mat, place it as even as possible on the board.  Then start at one end, folding the mat down along the 2 x 4 and staple until secure.  Then pull it taught (firm but gently) at the opposite end and do the same.  Then I would do each of the sides (long edges).  I liked to staple a couple inches down.  With track later laid on top, it kept the mat down.  But, I used the whole mat. 
Do you have plans to use the whole mat or cut out sections of it?

I'm using it on a 4x8 board , I did this as a kid but forgot if we used staples or adhesive, starting the hobby back again at age of 50 so my grand kids can appreciate trains , thank for your input
