I'm running 26" and 28" dual track with #6 crossovers and will soon add 33.25" and 35.5" track. SCARM has all the Bachmann track listed and is very intuitive making track selection a breeze.
I've never needed to cut track to get pieces to fit. As already mentioned Bachmann have a 44592 HO Scale E-Z Track® Connector Assortment to make things easy.

What kind of glue (cement?) works on it?

I believe it's styrene or something very similar. I've always been
able to glue it with the liquids which melt it together.
