Noob question about upgrade path. (Unexpected Bachmann owner :)

2.) Stop lights and Semaphores.
I didn't notice anything like that (beside pure cosmetics) on Bachmann site. I know that Marklin has semaphores that can be set to auto swithc once train passed and actually stop trains. (To be honest it wasn't clear to me how is that achieve and is it done on dcc or dc track.)

I haven't delved into this side of DCC yet but I do have a DC Marklin Z scale layout and I believe automation like this can be achieved using reed switches that are triggered by passing locos/rolling stock.

With a knowledge of electronics and soldering skills, almost any automation can be achieved. There are many items available and some you can make yourself if you do not require hand holding.
I have been following a guy who does a lot with automation in cabooses, figures on the layout, working bell on a loco, etc, all done by using decoders. All DIY, stuff.
