These pictures are breathtaking, even in sepiatone, and even to someone who has seen much of this in person.

The land out here does change west of the 100th Meridian, due to both the lack of rainfall and the absence of continental glaciers that once covered much of the country east of there.

Where I live in western Nebraska (in the Mountain Time Zone), not only are wagon tracks still visible along the routes of the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails, but some of the covered wagons themselves are still in existence.  One is sitting in a parking lot two blocks from here.  It has sat outside, probably since it was new, and has just about fallen apart.  I expect the spokes to finally fall out of the wheels some time this year.  Other old covered wagon wheels are used as lawn ornaments around town.

Imagine the stories those things could tell if they were able!
