Good morning.  For my son's birthday, we purchased an Alco FA-2 set in Lehigh Valley trim.  Great train.  In any event, I was wondering how I could, or if it were possible, to lock the train in neutral so that it could be parked on a powered siding when not in use.  I know that with the older Lionels there is a slide switch that you move when the train is in neutral, and then it is "parked."  I read the directions for the FA-2 and did not see such a feature described.  Is it possible to do this on this train?  Any help appreciated, thank you in advance.

Dear Dagwood,

It's much simpler to isolate the siding's center rail and put a switch in the power wire feeding it.

As a bonus, you don't throw out your loco's warranty.

If you still want to modify the loco, let me know if you want to keep the headlight on, or if it can be off, while parked on the siding.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik
If your loco is too heavy to lift, you'd better be able to ride in, on or behind it.
