DCC Switches

I just added my first DCC switch.  I followed the programming instructions.  Heard the double click when the switch went into programming mode and then the multiple clicks after I assigned the switch to number 6 key.

For the life of me I did not know how to throw the switch while the train is running.  I press function key, then the 6 key, but nothing happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Robert,
Your turnouts are, in effect, addressed like a locomotive. F0or example, if you choose address 8, all your turnouts will be on address 8.
Then function 1 will control turnout 1, function 2 will control turnout 2, etc.
