Thanks Des, wait untill you see the GS4 in B&O Colors  ;) . I warn SP Fans not to look but to me the paint job looks right at home on her. Might convert her to coal since B&O used primarly Coal in their steam engines until the very end. , donno yet.

Balto,

This is the point where a little alternate history comes in.  Say, the B&O wanted some 4-8-4's of their own, but did not have the budget to develop one.

SP had more than they needed at the time, so sold some to B&O.  A trip through the shop to convert to coal, and another trip through the paint shop, and Ta Da!

The GS series had to handle fast passenger trains over mountains on the SP, so should be a natural for the B&O.

Balto,

Sorry for the double post, but I just have to ask.

What is the story behind Purdy's Funeral train?  The lady in the Casket Coach looks pretty upset.

Is this something like a funeral car on a streetcar system?  Or is it an entire train dedicated to a funeral?

A dining car might be a nice addition for those Northerners who feel a funeral should be accompanied by a big family meal.

Don't forget to add the flowers.  Maybe a pipe organ (it could run off the trainline).  Pull out the stops too far and you get a brake application!

The story behind Purdys Funeral Train is that Purdy was a dog of mine for about 12 years. She passed away in 2010. I painted up a Spectrum 4-4-0 Richmond in pullman Green paint with B&O Gold stripes. Her train will be 4 Old Time Coaches painted in the pullman green paint scheme B&O Ran. Heres a pic of the her with engine:

I also did a funeral train for my other dog i had to have put to sleep in 2010, Sarah. Shes got a whole train right now as i had all the stuff. Finding the old time cars got a bit hard for Purdys train as All I could find were combines. Heres Sarah's Train:

I based the idea on the Lincoln Funeral Train and used B&O Paint schemes.

Balto-

Well, it's not a Daylight (let's face it, nothing else is) but your B&O GS is really handsome!

Yes, it is.  I noticed that B&O non-streamlined locos had gray painted smokeboxes, while streamlined locos had boilers and smokeboxes painted blue.  The solid blue ones had an outer shell covering the smokebox and boiler.

Wonder how this would look with a solid blue boiler and smokebox?

Dd-

I don't know. I think the light blue smokebox adds a lot and keeps the loco from looking like a layer cake. I think it would
look fine if it were all blue above the running boards (meaning the sheet metal on top, too), but a sandwich with black bread
and blue salami just wouldn't look right to me.

I believe the GS4 is a semi streamlined engine. if it was fully streamlined like the J Class I did then i would have painted it completely blue. The P7s in the green and blue schemes (non streamed) had grey smoke boxes, so thats why i did it that way.
