Bachmann 2-10-2 gearing

I have decided to do the tear-down and replacement myself.  As there is probably no interference with the drive section, it looks pretty straighforward.  One thing  Idid notice is that there seems to be a bit of a hitch both for/rev.  Has anyone experienced taking this engine apart, and if so, could you give me some pointers if there are things to watch for.
