Here is a link to an article by Bruce who use to own Litchfield Station, a very good DCC supplier. Make sure you look at the follow up messages and even download this eZine to your PC or tablet.

Some here seem to be need to be led by the hand concerning DCC.
Take your time and read though the article, slowly, if necessary. There are enough pictures so you can see how things are linked together. Don't make assumptions based on what you learned about DC powered trains as these is a good chance you will be wrong.
A picture is usually worth a thousand words.
Store the link in Favorites.
You can download the article to your PC and print out what you might like to keep near the work bench or layout.
An iPad 1 or iPad 2 is a great device for model railroading. Around the layout or taking it to the club.
