great pics, Jerry! Thanks for sharing, I love how your layout has the big open feel to it...some great videos can be taken with that and watching I bet is just awesome..seeing the trains from far away and them slowly coming to you. Nice stuff!

Great progress, Napa!

well, I wonder what the odds are for this....went on Friday and took the vids...then this Sunday morning trying to catch a train and this was parked down in the yard getting a lube job and some electrical work done because of the inspection pits that are still here and operation. Grafton, my little went completely ballistic when he saw the engine parked there.

That rail yard still has life in it!!!!

Not really a layout, yet, this Old West station will be part of a layout someday. (Rebuilding the house first).  For now it's just a test-loop...

Looks good Jerry! As I am building my 4 x 8 I keep wishing I had more room to do what I want to do with it. Although it is very stressful at times to me since this is WAY out of my comfort zone I must say I am sooo enjoying it. Rather than watching tv I  cant wait for the kids to get to sleep so I can work on the layout....
If anyone is interested I am doing videos on how to build a layout, you can see my layout on youtube.
I will try and post pictures this weekend.

Balrog, That looks great

bfelix, I too am in the process of building my first layout. I'm doing it so the grandkids and I can do something together. All the time I'm thinking "bigger, bigger, bigger," but you have shown that it doesn't have to be big for the little one to have fun with it.

Thanks bfelix
Bigger is not always better. Start and finish small and add on... I am living proof.

Barry I replied to your PM.

Jerry

Sorry Bal I looked.

No Problem, M1, I sent you a private message with the the conact info and phone number to the musuem.

Got the big boy in two days ago, here is the vid of it in action. VERY pleased with this engine, but it came with plastic handrails...surely this is a mistake with the retail price that is on this sucker. Not that I paid that much for it, but still...other than that though, this baby purrs and creeps like no other. Enjoy!

PS This will be (hopefully)what it looks like when it's all painted up.

Joe   nice sound and good mover loco.    Dave

obviously it runs better than the real ones did. I assume the sound file is for the HDL engine, which ge pulled from every ac6000 under warranty, after years of trying to get them to run right.

the union pacific ac6000s got the same fdl16 engine as the ac4400s, and are now 4400hp.  csx opted for a 16 cylinder gevo, and theirs still have the full 6000hp rating. so the HDL is history.....

Wow, this thread has gotten long!

If the link works, this this a video from my home layout.  Obviously the three Consolidations are modified Spectrums.  Of the next 20 or so wagontop freight cars, all but three were built from craftsman kits. They are heavily sun faded (almost orange) from years of weather.  The setting is 'supposed' to be the late '50s as steam is about to disappear.

My next project is to build a homemade flasher unit and get the crossing signals working.

The train is so long I sped it up a bit to keep from boring the watcher.  The cars go by so fast, you can't tell the first ten cars are in numerical order.  I'm weird like that. Enjoy (I hope).

Regards,

Jonathan
